Apple iPhone Models Through the Years - IphoneApple

Apple iPhone Models Through the Years - IphoneApple

By Simon Drew

Apple has an interesting history of hits and misses in its models since it began operating as a back of the garage computer manufacturing firm in the 70s. This reflects the inventor personality of chief geek Steve Wozniak, who hand built the first units of apple computers in his garage and on loan from suppliers. However, as apple branched into mobile device production, it somewhat lose its inventor complexes and shifted to a more business like approach to developing new versions. Take the iPhone for example.

When it was first launched, the 1st generation iPhone was ground breaking and set new rules in the field of smart phones. This brought a whole new world of smart phones with touch screens, mobile browsing capability, digital players and third party applications. Such was the feat that the first iPhone achieved and Apple realized millions in profits from such breakthrough. It was an iconic phone that helped Apple stand still even in the adversities brought by the global economic slump.

If Jobs and the other Apple guys would still have the jitters of a beginner, and Wozniak is not content on giving motivational speeches to rookie engineers at the Apple labs, we would expect a new iPhone version in the months that followed. However, we have to wait for more than a year to get our hands on the 2nd generation Apple.

The 1st generation was often described as a revolutionary, even magical product that is years ahead of any mobile phones on planet earth. The magic has faded in the 2nd generation iPhones. Not that it is an inferior product compared to the first. But by now there are a lot of other similarly - designed touch screen phones by other companies and the magic of touch screens has ceased to amaze the general public.

But the 2nd gens have some surprises that can be more aptly described as evolutionary rather than revolutionary. In addition to the outstanding features of the iPhone, it introduced 3G and third party applications in the App store. This had the people nudging off their almost two year old iPhones for an iPhone 3G. Thus, the new iPhone managed to follow its older sibling's success.

And it's been two years or so and we do not have an announcement for a 3rd generation iPhone. This would have us thinking what could be happening inside Apple's labs? Could they be running out of tricks in the hat? Or are they well into making the perfect iPhone that would again change the rules of the game?

Rumors abound about the new ability to cut and paste, and a more powerful 32GB version. There are a lot of other expected features that can be more than just Apple fans' fantasies rather than a reality. However, we leave it to Apple to pull out a new trick.

As it is, the iPhone could use a little improvement such as the rumored expansion in memory, a crispier display and more useful apps. And this all would do for a better 3D generation iPhone. But they have to release it sooner as the queue is already long.
