Watch TV On Iphone: Getting TV On Iphone Is Super Easy Once You Know How

Submitted By: Star Smith

Twenty years ago, no one could have imagined that you would be able to walk around with a device small enough to fit in your coat pocket - watching your favorite TV shows at your leisure. I mean, a TV used to be that big box sitting in your living room that doesn’t move. Okay, it still is, but thanks to the good folks at Apple computer, you can transport TV content to a portable gadget and bring it with you – now that’s progress.

When you think about it, the iPhone is the closest we’ve come to having a truly sophisticated communications device that is something straight out of a Star Trek episode. Back in the 1960s, when Star Trek first aired, people could only imagine using some of the cool looking devices that traveled through the galaxy with the Star Trek crew.

Every time you watch TV from iPhone, you are actually experiencing how it feels to hold and use a futuristic device that allows you to communicate via phone or email with other people, makes it easy for you to listen to your favorite music, lets you play cool games, and makes it easy for you to watch your favorite TV shows and movies on the go.

Wow, we’ve come a long way in forty years.

So, how can you watch TV on the iPhone?

That’s a great question, and you’ll be pleased to know that you can quickly learn how to access your favorite TV shows via a high quality download service. Now, before you go rushing off to research downloading services, you should know that there are only a few trustworthy companies online where you can get good quality content for your iPhone. Of course, you can start with the iTunes site as an obvious choice.

However, there are other good services that don’t charge a fee per download. One of these downloading services has consistently ranked as the best, because they offer fast downloads of TV shows, easy-to-read tutorials for how to use their tools, and good customer service, in case you do have questions.

Please be aware that there are many free download sites that are very dangerous for you to use, because they allow adware and spyware to be downloaded to your iPhone. I suggest you avoid using these types of free services for your own protection.

While you will have to pay an upfront fee to use the higher quality services, they will pay for themselves quickly, because they are safe from spyware and you only have to pay once to access an unlimited amount of TV entertainment.

Just like the people portrayed in Star Trek, you too can have instant access to all kinds of media right at your fingertips. The one thing that you won’t be able to do through your iPhone is to physically transport from one place to another.

But who knows?

Maybe one day you’ll be able to press a button and create a 3D holographic image of your favorite TV show and play one of the characters. Your iPhone could be just the beginning of a whole new way to experience television.

Orb Networks makes software for streaming media from our home computers to other devices including cellphones, Xbox, Wii, PS3, etc as well as other computers.

I used to use Orb to share some big videos that I didn’t want to wait hours uploading with a family member across the world and just stream it with Orb.

They had previously released a iPhone App – OrbLive for iPhone. It used to work only on WiFi/EDGE. Now, OrbLive for iPhone has been updated to a new version that allows live TV streams over WiFi as well as AT&T’s EDGE & 3G networks.

5 apps to watch TV on the iPhone

I recently got an iPhone 3GS and I can’t stop watching TV shows and movies on it! It’s just plain addicting. Now when I say watching TV on the iPhone, it means either watching live TV or watching pre-recorded stuff.

If you want to watch true live TV on your iPhone, there are a few apps out there, but they only work over WiFi, not 3G. However, buying some additional hardware for your computer can get you actual live TV on your iPhone over 3G. I’ll explain everything below.

Apps to watch TV on the iPhone

First, let’s go through some of the apps currently in the App Store that let you watch pre-recorded and live video on the iPhone. TVU allows you to watch live TV from more than 300 channels worldwide. It costs $5 and works over WiFi only at this time. The basic features it includes are favorites, search, and landscape mode viewing. Also, there is no limit on the amount of time you can watch TV.

Apparently, this programs works over 3G, but is not nearly as polished as TVU. People have complained about bad program guide, slow video loading, and other types of problems.

However, it has about 200 channels from around the world that you can watch in full screen over 3G. Maybe the next version will be better!

If you don’t care about the whole “live” aspect of TV, then you can use tv.com to watch videos from numerous networks including CBS, NBC, CNET and lots more.

The programs works over WiFi and over 3G, so that’s a nice benefit. I’ve used it before and it’s very good except for the fact that the video quality can be grainy sometimes.

Not exactly live TV, but Television has quite a decent lineup of videos that you can watch from top sources like CNN, CBS, FOX, Comedy Central, ESPN, and more.

Currently it only supports viewing over a WiFi network.

Ok, so now if you really really want true live TV on the iPhone with access to all the channels you are currently subscribed too (not just random ones from other countries), then you need to go a bit further than just iPhone apps.

Though this apps costs a nice $10, it’s definitely worth it! You can use it to stream music, video, and pictures from your desktop home computer to your iPhone.

Not only that, but you can stream your webcam to your iPhone and the best part, stream live TV to your iPhone.

The only catch here is that you need to have a TV Tuner card installed on your computer. That’s an extra $100 bucks or more, but if you really want to have access to all your cable and satellite channels live on the iPhone, you’ll need to buy one.

The other major advantage is that it works over 3G, which is super cool!
